I'm a lefty, and I can write (sort of) with my right hand. As in, legibly but very slowly.
I think it's because most lefties have tried to use their right hand at some point, to fit in with the right-handed majority.
I use right-handed scissors, but write and draw left-handed. My 'mousing' on my laptop touchpad I do left-handed. I don't touch-type, and the majority of my typing is done with my left hand. I deal cards left-handed, though I shuffle them with my right hand (I never did understand that one). Using a (right-handed) ruler to draw a 25cm line, I start at the 25 and draw right to left, finishing at the 0.
And I didn't tell you that I loved this fic. It's perfectly in character for Holmes to have taught himself to be ambidextrous.
