Having heard the screeching from the street, I mentally steeled myself as I opened the sitting room door.
Holmes was draped over the settee, violin beneath his chin, scraping the bow back and forth across the strings. Any similarity to music which emanated from the instrument was purely coincidental.
“What the devil are you playing?” I asked, wincing.
“Brahms. The Lullaby, actually.”
“Holmes, you are playing all the wrong notes,” I told him.
An eyebrow arched. “On the contrary, Doctor – I am playing all the right notes, but not necessarily in the right order.”
There was no answer to that.
